A Virtual Tour of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre

The folks at ATS/ proTerraSancta have made available a short video, a fly-through (and fly-around) virtual tour of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, based on wire-frame computer graphics. The identifying captions are in Italian. Not sure what the music is all about… Interestingly, the virtual tour does not enter inside the Katholicon of the Greek Orthodox which, along with the Rotunda, constitutes the core of the Crusader-era (and present-day) church. One wonders if perhaps the Latins feared a Status Quo incident if they let their computer “go in there” — stranger things have happened!

ATS is the official NGO support arm of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land. On their web-site, four different views similar to this are available as high-quality prints and, yes, table place-mats. Enjoy.

UPDATE, 07 February 2012:

The same folks have just released a new VIDEO, a 14-minute journey through time, tracing the history of the church and the site — back to the beginning. A valuable learning tool — Have a look
